Volkshochschule Greifswald

Volkshochschule (VHS) Greifswald is a public institution for adult education. This Adult Education Centre was founded in 1919 and works in the county seat Greifswald. It is one of the three public community centres for continuing education in the county of Vorpommern-Greifswald. All three centres together supply courses for the approximate 245,000 inhabitants of the county. VHS Greifswald offers courses for learners from the age of fourteen years up to an age of eighty and beyond. Every year approximately 5,000 learners attend different courses.  All courses are held by self-employed staffers or teachers who do the teaching as a side job.  Learners can attend a wide range of courses in the following programme areas:  1) Politics, Society, Environment; 2) Culture and Creative Design; 3) Health; 4) Languages; 5) Profession and Job; and 6) Basic Education, School Leaving Qualifications. Language Department

We offer language classes in Chinese, Danish, German as a foreign language, English, Finnish, French, Italian, Japanese, modern and classical Greek, Norwegian, Polish, Russian, Spanish and Swedish. The language course offering changes according to the demand and to the availability of teachers.
